Black Rail
Description: The Black Rail was not known to breed in Colorado until the early nineties, but subsequent searches have demonstrated that the species is easily heard on spring and summer nights in most large marshes along the Arkansas River from eastern Pueblo County to John Martin Reservoir, which is the best-known site. Density of breeding birds in suitable marshes can actually be quite high, and it is sometimes possible to hear a dozen or more from one spot, and with lots of luck and work, up to sixty in a night.
